Supertest: German Super Aircraft Carrier Oswald Boelcke
With Update 15.10, we are getting our first Super Aircraft Carrier in almost 5 years. The Oswald Boelcke will be entering testing, and you might want to know what this monster is packing.
Let's address the elephant in the room, shall we?
Historical background
There isn't much to cover here. The Oswald Boelcke is a hypothetical conversion of a Preussen-class battleship hull into an aircraft carrier. For... some reason, the game description calls it an H-41 battleship hull, but Preussen is WAY bigger than that. As far as I remember, the H-41 was more around 280 m long, while the Preussen is a whole 313 m long.
Interestingly, Wargaming decided to take the same approach as Graf Zeppelin with the Oswald by giving her a particularly heavy secondary battery. This would allow her to operate on her own for commerce raiding. It doesn't really make sense since, in theory, if Germany could build large battleships, they also had the resources for escorting cruisers and destroyers buuut... It is what it is.
Among the planes carried by the Oswald, there is a squadron of Arado Ar 234B. These were the first turbojet-powered bombers in the world. They only entered service in late 1944 and were mainly used for reconnaissance flights over enemy territory. The aircraft could carry a payload of up to 1 500 kg: either three bombs of 500 kg or a BT 1400 unpowered "bomb torpedo" of 1 510 kg. However, it required rocket assistance for takeoff (which is why they have it in the game).
As for the name, the ship is named after the World War One flying ace Oswald Boelcke. The man was considered to be the father of the German fighting air force and air combat and scored a total of 40 victories in aerial combat.
In World of Warships, the Oswald carries the same aircraft as the Manfred von Richthofen, but she also gets a squadron of skip bombers with the same parameters as those of the Max Immelmann. Finally, she has access to a tactical squadron of jet bombers.
The ship appears as it would have been fitted in 1945 if everything was going well for Germany.

As a reminder, this ship is in testing; anything can change, so don't treat her as if she's already been released.

The Armor

So uh.... Wargaming, what in the name of Hell is that?
To summarize this ship, she gets the same planes as Manfred von Richthofen alongside the skip bombers of Max Immelmann. That's already an incredibly strong loadout because it offers some amazing versatility and makes it great against destroyers, cruisers, and battleships.
Then they give her jets, and these drop 9 HE bombs identical to the Erich Loewenhardt's, with the second-highest damage of all HE bombs. As you can imagine, anything getting dropped by these will suffer a lot considering the small reticle size.

Also, since it is a Preussen hull, it has a truckload of armor (though the flight deck is "only" 50 mm thick). As such, it will be much harder to bring down than other carriers. BUT WAIT... There is more; the secondary battery is no joke, with a 16-gun broadside, German-improved range, HE penetration, and dispersion.
It's also going to be pretty insane at sniping other carriers. The only one that will be a bit more of a pain will be the Sekiryu, as the AP rockets cannot hit the citadel and her flight deck is too thick for the HE bombs to penetrate.
Regardless...
